Want Some Free Story Consulting?

UPDATE: This offer is now off the table. Many thanks to those who took me up on it.

I threw up that little banner on the side a few days ago and it led to a page with some info on it. I don’t think too many people checked it out because, well…it kinda looked like a nasty *ad* or something.

I was going to change it and then I got some major computer hullaballoo over the weekend (don’t even ask…but my external hard drive just paid for itself). So I’m changing it now and making it a real post.

But first, a technical notice: It has come to my attention (during my computer hullaballoo) that my blog is looking pretty wonky in Internet Explorer 6 (and maybe earlier). The right sidebar has decided to disappear to the very bottom of the blog and is being quite naughty.

All is well and good in Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 (at least for me). So if my blog looks screwy to you, what are you waiting for? Get Firefox already! It’s better, it’s free and has some really cool add-ons. And if you don’t want that, then update to Internet Explorer 7. Or stick with the wonky version. I’d go to the trouble of fixing it, but frankly I’m afraid of making it worse.

Plus I want to change the look of the blog soon, so I think it can wait.

Hope that’s cool. 🙂

On with my neat little offer!

Well at least I think it’s a neat offer.

For just the month of August, I am offering *free* visual story consulting to a certain number of people. (I just haven’t figured out quite how many that will be). I first want to see what kind of response I get.

If any.

Why? Why would I do that?

It’s a new direction I want to take.

And I want the low-pressure practice (as in, no one’s paying me).

I really love helping people ‘find their stories’ and tell those stories visually. It was my favorite part of teaching and with some cool Internet tools out today, we can accomplish this from the comfort of our own homes. It basically doesn’t matter where you live.

How sweet is that?

What do you need to qualify for the freebie?

  • Have an original story already thumbnailed, roughed or in final storyboard stage.
  • Are open to my crapping on critiquing your work and accepting the feedback (I mean that with love 🙂 ).
  • Have access to a computer, hi-speed Internet (won’t work with dial-up) and a set of headphones with microphone.
  • If you’re one of my former students, you get first priority. But anyone can apply.

What do you get?

  • Up to one hour of webinar consultation with yours truly (can choose day or evening) during the month of August ONLY.
  • Valuable, professional feedback on your work that can be hard to come by.
  • A video file (with sound) of the whole shebang that’s yours to keep and re-watch at your leisure (so you can remember everything!).

What’s the catch?

No catch. Well, not a big one.

All I ask is for you to give me some written, constructive feedback in the form of a testimonial that I can use to promote this service in the future. I may even ask to use your work as a ‘case study’ sort of thing for others to learn from.

I want to be able to use real names and real people, so if you’re not comfortable with that, then let me know.

I basically want to test out the whole process and see if people benefit from it.

I will be more relaxed if I test this stuff out with people I already know and have worked with. Hence the priority to former students. But if you’re cool with being a guinea pig, then so am I. 🙂

So let’s do this thing.

If you’re interested, leave a comment and I’ll get in touch with you OR drop me an email and tell me what you’ve got. You could direct me to a web page of the project if you have one up, but it’s not necessary.

No attached files yet, please! Just tell me what you’re working on and why you think you’d be a good fit for the offer. Remember you get maximum ONE HOUR so don’t expect us to go through 900 pages.

Again, I’m not 100% sure how many folks I’ll take, but I’m looking at the 5 to 8 range.

Just leave a comment or send me an email at:

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Or from the crickets… 🙂

Read the Storyboard Blog by RSS Feed or by email because I *will* be doing that screen direction post next!

    Hey Karen,

I’d love to, i think i have a storyboard i wouldn’t mind fixing up anyway.
i don’t have sound ( any audio at all on my computer at this moment..so kinda weird bug?) or a mircophone so it may not work out

    @ Friar
That’s great. I think you’ll have fun with that and get much better drawings out of it. 🙂

    @ Dan
Thanks! Yeah it does work better with the microphone & headset. I’d like it to fill up but people might be shy about it. We’ll see how it goes. 🙂
